Glengarry Glen Ross
Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre
242 West 45th St. New York, NY
May 1, 2005 - August 28, 2005
Starring Alan Alda as Shelly Levene, Liev Schreiber as Richard
Roma, Frederick Weller as John Williamson, Tom Wopat as James Lingk, Gordon
Clapp as Dave Moss, Jeffrey Tambor as George Aaronow and Jordan Lage as Baylen
It's a no holds barred, cutthroat competition in David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning suspense comedy GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, directed by two-time Tony® Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Wicked) and featuring an all-star cast led by Alan Alda, Tony® Award winner Liev Schreiber (The Manchurian Candidate), Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), Gordon Clapp (NYPD Blue), Frederick Weller (Take Me Out) and Tom Wopat (Dukes of Hazzard).
GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS is a riveting account of the competing personalities in a seedy Chicago real estate office, where it's business as usual until a high-stakes sales contest takes a shocking turn. Welcome to the fast and furious world of American entrepreneurship, where lying, cheating and stealing are all in a day's work... and where the salesman will stop at nothing to close a deal.

Liev's Acceptance Speech:
"Alan Alda, Gordon Clapp, Fred Weller, Jeffrey Tambor, Jordan Lage and Tom Wopat are the biggest hams I’ve ever had the pleasure of working on stage with. Thank you guys. To be a part of this ensemble has been an amazing experience for me. Joe Mantello should be ashamed of himself for allowing grown men to behave that way on stage. Thank you, Joe for encouraging all of that bad behavior. I am completely shocked. This is the community I have always dreamed of being a part of. I am so grateful for all the opportunities that I have had to be a part of this community. To our producers of Glengarry, to my agent, David Kolonder, to Billy and Joe, to Lauren and everyone else who helped. Thank you so much. This is such a tremendous honor. Thank you."

Sigourney Weaver's recent work has had two themes: 9/11 (The
Guys) and younger men (Tadpole). Her new project, Neil LaBute's The
Mercy Seat, incorporates both, as she and a young lover (Liev Schreiber) grapple
with their relationship on September 12. A devoted fan of the playwright best
known for The Shape of Things, Weaver says, "Neil's writing is so
beautiful, even though it's very blunt stuff. Like in one speech I'm talking
about the doggy position, but there's a real music to it." But it's about
the attacks -- surely it's only for the emotionally masochistic? On the
contrary, says Weaver, "if anyone's sick of hearing about 9/11, this is
probably the play to go to." The title refers to a religious question the
show poses, which Weaver describes as "Are you able to give mercy when it's
denied you?" But in truth, she adds, "the play's about a relationship
that's wickedly funny with -- whew! -- some heavy furniture being moved."

What with all the sitcom veterans,
Transylvanian transvestites, singing animals, and naked guys swinging their
privates about onstage, it's easy to forget that there can be such a thing
as a well-written drama on Broadway - but this season welcomes one of Harold
Pinter's best. The Roundabout Theatre's revival of the 1980 drama Betrayal
- an elegantly precise piece of clockwork writing that tracks a seven-year
affair backwards to its almost painfully innocent beginning - looks to be a
major highlight of this season. The Roundabout's two A-list headliners
(pictured), Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) and Liev Schreiber
(Hamlet, Scream) should be in excellent hands. After all,
director David Leveaux is no stranger to precise plays by British authors
about the pain and process of adultery - he directed last season's
pitch-perfect production of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, and last
spring, his two co-stars, Jennifer Ehle and Stephen Dillane, both waltzed
off with Tonys. In previews for a November 14 opening.

On May 17, 1999 Liev won a 1999 Village Voice Obie award, Off-Broadway's
highest honor, for his performace in "Cymbeline".
Part of his acceptance speech:
Liev Schreiber (for his performace in Cymbeline): speaking of how much he
learned from his director, Andrei Serban, he told of a dress rehersal attended
by his family and friends. During his heartfelt performace of a pastoral speech,
he heard Serban's voice, with its heavy accent, over the loud speaker saying,
"No, no, no ...stop...What are you doing? You're so fucking boring!"
and Liev thought, "Wow ...so this is what it is like to work with the
Eastern Europeans."

The Size of the World was written by Charles Evered, directed by Walt Jones,
and produced by Lloyd Richards.
Liev played the part of "Peter Hogancamp" -- a fast talking,
dynamic and, in many ways, troubled young man. The three character play was set
in the kitchen of an aluminum-sided house in Passaic, New Jersey.
The play has been produced all over the world (Its New York run starred Frank
Waley.) and is available in the book The Size of the World and Other Plays
by Charles Evered.
The Size of the World has recently been optioned for film.
