Hello all,
Happy to see you up and running again. I have been
in Prague for abut a month now prepping Everything
is Illuminated. We begin shooting in a little less
than a month so things are slightly hectic on my
end. Prague is beautiful and I had a great time
scouting Kiev and Odessa (Ukraine), strangely
familiar. I still have not been able to locate my
grandfather's town which as far as my mother knows
is called Tomaspiel(?). Anyway I must go screen a
documentary for the crew called "Hiding and
Seeking". In many ways this film is representative
of the kind of heart and simplicity that I would
love our film to have. Hope you are all well. See
you at Manchurian...

benefit children using the arts. Everyone had the

who would like to donate should send a check made
out to Scenarios USA and mailed to

can and leave what you can't deal with." Perhaps
most proud of all was "24 Hour" founder Tina Fallon,
who looked back on the project's history: "A bunch

Partying Pair
Monday, April 23, 2001
Tongues are wagging about Meg Ryan and her new party
pal, Melissa Etheridge. Two days after the newly
single Ryan and the sapphic singer hung out at
Lotus, they showed up together at O'Nieal's Grand
Street for a party for Ryan's upcoming movie Kate
and Leopold. After hanging with co-star Liev
Schrieber and dozens of beer-guzzling crew members,
Ryan and Etheridge shot over to Spa to meet up with
Cabaret star Alan Cumming. Ryan and Etheridge
"danced for three hours," says a spy, finishing up
at Bungalow 8.

Bar That Allows
Dogs
Von - 3 Bleeker Street
“A glass of Chateau Ramafort Bordeaux for you, a
Milkbone for your dog – this is the good life as
lived at Von. The rather civilized romantically lit
wine-and beer- only bar doesn’t seem like the kind
of place where a Laborador named Lou of
a Jack Russel
Terrier named Chicken would be
welcome to nuzzle the calves of strangers, but when
owners Charles and Kaarin Von began bringing their
Pitbull Happy to hang around, customers started
asking if it was okay to bring their doggies in,
too. Generally speaking, underaged canine customers
stick to water, but one night a group of revelers
encourages Happy to drink heartily from their beer
glasses. Bartender Louis Benghiat reports: “I’ve
never seem a hung over dog before.”

It seems to be open season
on the (mostly female) young things who make the

www.fashionwiredaily.com is running a cutting
article labeled "Social Disease: Celebs Who Can't
Stay Home." The piece is wonderfully dismissive of
Carmen Electra, for one. What exactly does Electra
do? "Not much other than appear at openings, awards
ceremonies and other events, making love to the
camera over and over," is its answer. The article
includes an informal poll of New York and L.A.
partygoers and publicists that suggests the most
chronic social-disease sufferers on the current

Liev Schreiber, Russell Simmons, Sylvia

The Liev Schreiber Site was
named "link of the week" at
www.movie-page.com.
Little action on the front
as Liev is taking a well-deserved vacation. Eighteen
solid months of working might make fans happy, but
it sure makes for one tired actor.
May 1999
On May 25th "The Sunshine
Boys" came out on video. Liev has a small part as tv
commercial director Ricky Greg -- a very small part.
But, he looks endearing in a backwards ball cap and
an Ohio State tee shirt. The film stars Woody Allen,
Peter Faulk, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
On May 19 Liev spent a
couple of hours chatting with fans on The Liev
Schrieber Site's first official live chat

Lots of great information, including the lowdown on

Liev will serve as one of
the jurors for the 1999 Shorts International Film
Festival in New York, November 9, 10 and 11, at the
Sony Theatres Lincoln Square (Broadway at 68th

Other jurors are: Mili Avital, Billy Baldwin,
Carolyn Marks-Blackwood, Steve Buscemi, Rise Cale,
Brian Cox, Mia Farrow, George Dawes Green, Rachel
Horowitz, Adele Lutz, Sheila Nevins, Rosie Perez,
Mary Louise Parker, and Jonathan Weisgal.
April 1999
Rumors have been out there,
but Liev himself confirmed that he will indeed
participate in a production of "Hamlet" for New
York's Public Theater this fall. The show should
open in November.
After two years, "A Walk on
the Moon" is opening nationally this weekend, April
2. The film opened in New York and Los Angeles last
weekend to warm reviews. Liev was often singled out
as a shining light in the movie. So far, Liev is
absent from the talk show circuit promoting the
film.

February 1999
Liev and Brian Dennehy
narrate the Simon & Schuster audio book--"The Kid"
and "The Big Hunt" by Elmore Leonard. Both stories
are Westerns; Liev reads "The Big Hunt".
Dustin Hoffman received the
AFI Lifetime Achievement Award recently. The
ceremony is going to be broadcast later this spring
as an ABC special. In an article about the event,
Liev was quoted (saying that he's basically been
ripping him off as an actor for 5 or 10 years) as
one of many young actors praising DH.
February 24: “Shakespeare in
Love” Oscar-nominated director John Madden is
toasted tonight in the back room of Elaine’s. Liev
is participating, along with: Harvey Weinstein,
Aidan Quinn, Griffin Dunne, Sidney Lumet, Norman
Jewison, Boatie Boatwright, Anthony La Paglia, Peter
Jennings, Natasha Richardson, Blaine and Robert
Trump
According to Variety,
Liev is signed to play Orson Welles alongside James
Cromwell as William Randolph Hearst and John
Malkovich as Herman Mankiewicz in HBO's RKO 281,
the story of the feuding behind the scenes of
Citizen Kane. Ben Ross (The Young Poisoner's
Handbook) will direct, with filming this March
in London. The film should earn a theatrical release
in Europe and air on HBO this fall. Chicago
playwright John Logan's script--based on the
Oscar-nominated documentary The Battle Over
Citizen Kane--originally was going to be a
Ridley Scott-directed theatrical film with Edward
Norton as Welles, Marlon Brando as Hearst, Dustin
Joffman as Mankiewicz, Madonna as Hearst's mistress
Marion Davies and Meryl Streep as Hearst columnist
Hedda hopper. The HBO version will cost about $10
million, one third as much as the theatrical would
have.
The rumor mill is going
full-throttle. Although there has not been an
offical statement made there are whisperings of Liev
starring in the new Kevin Williamson tv vehicle
"Wastelands". A bunch of post college graduates move
to NYC or LA (take your pick, both rumors out there)
to start their lives. They include, a "closeted"
soap opera star, a homicide cop and a Reporter.
January 1999
Of course, the big news
about A Walk on the Moon, is its inclusion in
this year's Sundance Film Festival in Park

Sire Records will be

Eliz shelled out this
exciting tidbit on the forum today..."some Liev
narrating news: Ethan Coen's new book of short
stories, Garden of Eden, is an audio book. As
the LA Times reports, he put together 'a dream cast
of actors' to read. I'll put the whole list, because
it really is an impressive group, but there's one
I'm sure you'll be particularly interested in: Bain
Boehlke, Steve Buscemi, Matt Dillon, John Goodman,
William H. Macy, Liev Schreiber, Ben Stiller,
and John Turturro."
November 1998
From the adventures of Lisa
on the net, we find this tidbit: "Actor Liev
Schreiber, who made a name for himself in such
film-fest faves as `Party Girl,'`Walking and
Talking,' and `The Daytrippers,' has joined the cast
of the Denzel Washington-starrer `Lazarus and the
Hurricane.' Normal Jewison directs and Greg Kinnear
co-stars in the Universal picture."
October 1998
Liev has pulled out of the
February Macbeth project for the American
Place Theater in New York City, but he has tentative
plans to join the cast of Hamlet for New York

Liev has confirmed that he
will begin work on the film Hurricane in
Toronto on or around November 11.

Hawke's Hamlet October 1.
In other news, Liev is
planning on appearing in a production of Macbeth
in New York February of '99.
The September 20 issue of
The New York Post named Liev to its "B" list of
who's hot on the Gotham party circuit. Talking about
the September 17 event at Bottega Veneta, Liev said,
"The invitation was like a mood ring. I couldn't
read it until I ran my finger across it, and then it
showed up in an eerie green light and I thought
"That's cool. I have to go to that.'"
The Post stated that Liev is a fixture at such
events. "I think you go to one and everyone else
invites you to the other ones," he said.
Cymbeline
finished its run last month to lukewarm reviews.
Liev, on the other hand, won the hearts of many a
critic.
Both Phantoms and
Sphere can be seen on Pay Per View this month.
And, despite conflicting
release dates, Twilight will be in video

Scream 2
is released to video this month. Look for the film
to be priced for rental, which means it will be
selling for around $100. Until the marketing dies
down enough for the movie to be priced to buy ($20
or less), start looking in those pre-viewed video
bins!
Video companies are
releasing their information for upcoming films to be
marketed to video next month. Look for both
Sphere
and Phantoms to hit your local video store in
July.

after a lifetime of working for a city's parks and
recreation department (Beatty). Campbell Scott and
Lili Taylor will also star. Shooting begins shooting
outside New York next Thursday (May 7). Actor Tom

April 1998
Amidst conflicting reports
about the release date for Scream 2, the film
reappears in theaters as of April 24 due to viewer
demand.
Scream 2 is scheduled for
video release in the US on June 16. The movie will
be priced for rental and will not be available as a
sell through title until about 6 months after it's
initial video release date. (Videos priced for
rental tend to cost around $100.)
Official news is beginning
to surface about the casting and plot of Scream 3.
Liev has signed on the reprise the role of Cotton
Weary and it looks like he will finally become more
of a focus in the storyline. Scream 3 is set one
year after Scream 2 when Sidney quits college and
goes to Hollywood to become a movie actress.
Sidney's first role will be in a horror film
directed by WES CRAVEN. After arriving in Hollywood,
she gets a call from Gale Weather's agent. Gale has
written a script based on the events in SCREAM 2,
and she wants Sidney to play herself in the movie.
Soon, the murders begin again...this time on the set
of STAB: THE SEQUEL.
